2008 Carneros Merlot

The grapes for this remarkably well-balanced Merlot hail from the Moon vineyards in Carneros, where the heat is just right for this deeply structured Merlot.  We got the grapes from Jim in two batches.

Grape grower Jim Moon has been growing grapes (under Helen Turley's guidance) since the 80s.

History

• Harvested and crushed the upper batch on September 13, 2008: 26.0° brix, 3.54 pH.
• Harvested and crushed the lower batch on October 13, 2008: 25.5° brix, 3.48 pH.
• Pressed the upper batch on September 27, 2008 for first settling.
• Pressed the lower batch on October 30, 2008 for first settling.
• Moved the upper batch to barrels for aging on October 11, 2008.
• Moved the lower batch to barrels for aging on November 10, 2008.
